About Miami Valley International Trade Association (MVITA)

International trade requires a number of areas of expertise that many businesses may not possess. This lack of expertise makes companies hesitant to engage or venture into foreign trade. The Miami Valley International Trade Association (MVITA) is a volunteer organization that focuses on promoting international trade, both exporting and importing, in the Miami Valley. It supports regional Miami Valley businesses in their pursuits to buy and sell products and services internationally.

MVITA conducts internationally oriented and informative programs throughout the year to educate the business community in the processes of selling in and working with foreign companies and in foreign countries. Much of the support is derived from its membership and a broad spectrum of experts in various international areas such as accounting, banking, freight forwarding, law, marketing, sales and regulations.

Association activities are supported through membership dues and program fees. MVITA functions through a Managing Director with oversight by a 17 member elected board of trustees and appointed officers. It is incorporated as an Ohio non-profit corporation with all income used solely in support of Association activities.

MVITA hosts several seminars and programs throughout the year featuring prominent speakers from both private business and government. The goals of these programs are to provide meaningful and practical information to help companies compete in today's world markets. Educational programs provide timely and pertinent information to help local companies access and thrive in foreign markets. The programs are well attended and receive positive feedback.

For companies or employees new to exporting, MVITA sponsors a seminar workshop "Exporting 101" designed to provide an introduction to international trade. This program covers the export transaction from request for quotation to getting paid. Each workshop features a panel of international specialists to help the novice understand the export process.

For companies or employees new to importing, MVITA sponsors a seminar workshop "Importing 101" seminar that examines the challenge of finding reliable overseas sources, understanding the current customs requirements and finding efficient logistic support.

Annually, MVITA holds a World Trade Day conference in May, the Miami Valley International Golf Classic in August and a Holiday program in December.

MVITA publishes the TRADER for its members to keep them current on MVITA and other international events.

In 2004 the association was awarded the Governor's Excellence in Exporting "E" Award for its programs and services offered to small, medium and large companies in the Dayton and Miami Valley area. Due to MVITA's involvement in the international community and the expertise of the board members and staff, MVITA is able to provide a broad breadth of knowledge and assistance to our members and the local international community.
